Web Designs Explained

In brief you have 2 choices when designing a website.

1. A custom website. More costly to design and maintain when updating the website

2. Use a template. A Web Template is a ready-made website that will allow you to create high-quality websites in a fraction of the time. In a nutshell: web templates offer a lot of variety in both style and presentation, with all the nitty gritty problems already solved. The most time consuming part of the process (of web design) is during the initial design phase where the client and web designer go back and forth trying to come up with the look the client wants. This increases cost more than you would like to think and most people have not considered all the other costs that should be considered when doing a website like search engine optimization or marketing

Most of these template based websites are affordable, functional websites and are not designed to be compared to Disney.com or big budget websites. They are designed to be simple, functional websites so even the smallest budget can afford to get online!

The worst thing you can do is “NOTHING”

At a minimum I can build a basic website for you for $75, REALLY I CAN!

Are you a techie and want to learn how to do some of this yourself? I can train you to do some or all the work yourself.

This is a sample layout for a basic web design explaining some of the most common areas to be considered for the layout of your website.

A misconception about templates. It is a misunderstood idea that if you use a template your website will not be unique or will look like someone else's. NOT TRUE! A template should be looked at as a placeholder for content which can be completely customized and are good to give you design ideas as well. While most people will find a template that is perfect for their use it can be customized for your exact requirements

There are a couple of great choices when considering some of the open source software that is out here and these are some links for two of them to get you started.  Remember this...

"With great power comes great responsibility" and that applies to dong websites yourself. These are both amazing and powerful tools but for some users can be a little overwhelming. Just take a look at the documentation page for Joomla and it will give you some idea? http://docs.joomla.org/ or the FAQ page at http://docs.joomla.org/Category:FAQ

Don't get to hung up on the design part and look at a template as a basic framework that just lays out where you want your content to go and to get design ideas and color choices for example. Website are always evolving, growing and should change content often anyway and is only one smaller part than most people realize to being successful online. Remember, you can have the most amazing website ever but if you don't do the other things to get your website found it can be a lost of wasted effort!
